Bangor Savings Bank, which has a prominent new headquarters on the waterfront in Bangor, is the only Maine-based bank in the first-ever “World's Best Banks” rankings released by Forbes in a partnership with market research firm Statista.

Bangor Savings Bank is the only Maine-based bank in the first-ever "World's Best Banks" rankings released by Forbes in a partnership with market research firm Statista.

"Technology is revolutionizing the global banking market, and customer expectations are higher than ever for their financial institutions," Forbes stated in its announcement of the 2019 list of "World's Best Banks. "Instead of gauging the balance sheets and P&L statements, as Forbes does for its ranking of the 100 largest publicly-traded U.S. banks published annually in January, Statista surveyed more than 40,000 customers around the globe for their opinions on their current and former banking relationships."

Banks were rated on general satisfaction and key attributes like trust, fees, digital services and financial advice. Consumers across 23 countries and United States were asked to evaluate their own financial institution.

Bangor Savings Bank said in a news release it ranked 22nd and is the only Maine-based bank in the ranking of 60 U.S. banks based on surveys by bank customers. With an overall score of 79.44 out of 100, Bangor Savings is one of 415 banks across the globe to be named a Forbes 2019 World's Best Bank.

"We are honored to have earned a place on Forbes first 'World's Best' rankings," said Bangor Savings Bank President and CEO Bob Montgomery-Rice. "Our goal every day is to do all we can to help our employees, customers and communities prosper. When that constant effort leads to company recognition, we know we have a culture living out our 'You Matter More' brand."

Bangor Savings, with more than $4 billion in assets, recently opened a new operations and corporate campus for 400-plus employees along the Penobscot River in Bangor and has 58 branches in Maine and New Hampshire with more than 950 employees.

In addition to the Forbes ranking, Bangor Savings has done well in other customer-focused rankings, such as the annual J.D. Power Retail Banking Satisfaction StudySM, which has ranked the bank highest in customer satisfaction in retail banking in New England for three of the last four years.
