Visitors to Acadia National Park year-to-date in 2018 number 1,628,133, an increase of 49,370 over year-to-date 2017's 1,578,763.

The number of visitors to Acadia National Park continues to rise.

According to a monthly and annual summary report posted by the National Park Service, visitors this July numbered 759,165, an increase of 15,636 from July 2017's 743,529 visitors.

Visits for year-to-date in 2018 numbered 1,628,133, an increase of 49,370 over year-to-date 2017's 1,578,763.

The Mount Desert Islander reported the numbers appears to be headed toward another record year. Park visitation by passengers on the Island Explorer buses for July 2018 was up 10.3% over July 2017, the newspaper reported.

The latest numbers are on track with numbers reported earlier this year. Lousy weather lingering into April decreased visitation at Acadia by nearly 16,000 through the first four months of this year, compared with the previous year.

But by the time May rolled around, visitation numbers were already putting the park on track for a record year, with May 2018's 11.6% increase over May 2017 pushing total January-through-May visits to a 3% increase over the same period last year, the Mount Desert Islander reported at the time.
