Iconic Falmouth bakery sold

The family-owned European Bakery and Tea Room, an institution on Route 1 in Falmouth, has been sold to two former Lewiston teachers.

The Forecaster reported that seller Helen Budri founded the bakery in 1989. She, her parents, husband Emil and daughters worked in the business.

"I opened the bakery because baking was my passion," she told the newspaper.

Buyer Adam Johnson said he is committed to keeping the same recipes and current staff. Changes include putting in new cash registers to help with bookkeeping and to track sales, and minor cosmetic changes.

Budri is known for her support of community causes, and creating specialty items.
