The Jackson Laboratory is planning to have a 45,000-square-foot warehouse built on its Bar Harbor campus that would be equipped with offices, loading docks and maintenance garages, the Mount Desert Islander reported.
Hancock-based contractor Harold McQuinn Inc. is handling the groundwork for the site, while Jackson Lab employees are drafting the design.
John Fitzpatrick, facilities director at the Jackson Laboratory, said that the full site will be developed over the next few years, and that the site work will be done later this year.
Once the new warehouse is finished, the lab will have a new receiving area accessed by Schooner House Road, which will significantly reduce the amount of truck traffic and noise.
