A $5.65M revamp of Portland's Woodfords Corner to start next week

Shaw Brothers Construction of Westbrook will start a $5.65 million reconstruction of the Woodfords Corner section of Forest Avenue in Portland on Monday, Aug. 14.

According to the Portland government civic alerts website, the reconstruction will be between Pleasant Avenue and Lincoln Street on Forest Avenue, a busy thoroughfare in the city, and extend up Revere Street to Deering Street. The city said Forest Avenue carries an average of 27,000 vehicles daily in the area.

The project includes replacing old sewer, storm drainage and gas line infrastructure and adding new electrical conduits for a future lighting project. One utilities are finished, the road and sidewalks are to be rebuilt with new traffic signals.

Most of the work will be done overnight, with multiple crews working five or six days a week. Still, the work will continue into 2018. Phase one will involved the utility work on the south side of Woodford Street. Phase two will include work north of Woodfords Corner, and is to be finished by late November. The project will halt over the winter and restart in early April 2018.

Phase three will start with roadway reconstruction. The work will also include upgrades to the Pan Am Railways crossing, gates and signals.
