The week in review

July 13, 2012

The good: The Amtrak Downeaster set passenger and ticket revenue records for fiscal year 2012. The train saw 528,292 riders and ticket revenues of $7.4 million.

The bad: Calais Regional Hospital is cutting a total of 23 positions and freezing raises and matching pension contributions to offset a $1 million operating loss.

The good attendance award: U.S. Sen. Susan Collins on Wednesday cast her 5,000th roll call vote in a row, giving her a perfect-record, 15-year voting streak. The senator hasn't missed a roll call vote since 1997.
